What Type Of Leader Are You?

Trash Can CleaningThe type of leader you are directly correlates to the success of your trashcan cleaning business. With the trashcan cleaning industry becoming more and more competitive every day, being the type of leader your business needs to grow is important. Let’s take a look at some different types of leaders and see which one best fits you and see if there is anything you should be doing differently.

Transactional

The transactional leadership style is one that uses rewards or punishments for its team members based on their performance results. Both the business owner and their employees will agree upon set goals and the transactional leader will reward them when they reach those goals.

Transformational

The transformational style of leadership is based on communication between business owners and their staff. This type of leader motivates their employees and uses a variety of communication methods to increase productivity. This leader is very involved in their business and works hard to ensure it succeeds.

Democratic

A democratic leader often relies on input from others including their team members and partners. The responsibility for the business is still theirs, but the team effort comes into play a lot with this leadership style.

Laissez-Faire

This is possibly one of the worst management styles to have as this leader lacks direction and fails to provide any type of employee feedback. This hinders the productivity of the team and could cause the business to fail.

Autocratic

This leadership style gives sole authority to make any changes to the business or to the employees. This leadership style is usually only good for employees that require close supervision and generally slows down productivity of the business.

So which of these styles best suits you? Do you take charge, yet still listen to the advice of your team, or do you sit back and oversee every aspect of your trashcan cleaning service by yourself? If you take a look at your own management style, you may see some flaws and by changing them, you might see your business grow and you could gain new leads through better leadership.

How to Generate Referrals for Your Trashcan Cleaning Business

Trashcan Cleaning Business ReferralsIs your trashcan cleaning business getting the amount of referrals you want? Getting new business is a constant struggle for many small companies and the trashcan cleaning industry is no different. If you want more leads and more referrals for your business, follow the simple steps below and you will start seeing an increase in business and more awareness about your service.

The number one, easiest way to generate referrals for your business is to provide consistently good service. It sounds simple, but it’s true; better service equals more business. If you are giving your customers good service, they will tell their friends and neighbors about it and your business will grow.

Second, give incentives to customers who refer people to your business. It can be anything from a free week of service, a discount off of their bill or anything else you can think of. Customers like freebies and they are sure to talk about them.

Here is one that a lot of small business owners don’t think of; just ask. Ask your customers to refer you to their friends and neighbors if they like your service. There is nothing wrong with asking for referrals and it doesn’t cost you a thing.

If there are complementary businesses in your area, partner with them. You clean trashcans, partner with the guy who empties them. You could even partner with lawn service contractors or home repairman. In fact, you can partner with anyone who is out in the community that you serve.

Although you don’t want to sound like a used car salesman, try networking. This method is a bit more tricky but can be done almost anywhere and at any time. Get out and mingle, mention your service and see who bites.

These are all very good ways to gain more referrals for your business and can help you grow your trashcan cleaning service and become more profitable. Take a look at what you are doing already to gain referrals and if that method is effective. If it isn’t, don’t focus too much of your time on it and find a method, or methods, that work for you.

Give Better Customer Service to Increase Profits

Customer Service in BusinessDo you know what makes one business flourish over another when they offer the very same service at the same price? The simple answer to that is customer service. Customer service can even make a more expensive business more popular, and more profitable, than a cheaper one with the same offerings.

Why is that? How can customer service make someone pay more for the very same service or remain loyal to one business over another? In today’s economy, we all work much harder for our money and we don’t want to see it go to waste and that it the reason many homeowners gravitate towards the business with the best customer service. Be it the corner grocer, the local repairman or even their favorite roofer who checks in with them after a bad storm – its customer service that keeps them coming back.

There are many ways that you can give your customers exemplary service without having to do much more than what you are already doing. Sure, you can give out coupons, offer specials and give out free services, but that in itself doesn’t make good customer service. Something as simple as a hello or picking up a tipped over can at the curb is enough to make some customers remain loyal to your business. Other business owners will even go so far as sending out birthday or holiday cards as a way of thanking customers for their patronage. To you, it may seem like “just a card,” but to your customers, it can mean the world.

Another way you can give above average customer service is to talk to your customers. I know it sounds too easy to be effective, but just asking your customers if there is anything else you can do to make your service more worthwhile to them can really win them over and turn them into customers for life.

Forget the gimmicks and get back to basics; offer excellent customer service and you won’t have to worry about losing customers any time soon. Your customers will appreciate it and your trashcan cleaning business will be better for it. Give it a try and notice the difference it can make for your business today.

Are Your Trashcans Breeding Grounds for West Nile Virus?

Mobile Trashcan CleaningWe all know about the dangers of West Nile Virus and that the prime carriers of West Nile in this country are mosquitoes. According to state health records, right now, we already have more confirmed cases of West Nile than ever, and the season isn’t even over. Even if you don’t live in a wet, marshy area or own a scrap yard with stacks of old tires sitting around(two of the mosquito’s favorite homes), you may still be harboring mosquitoes and making it easier than ever for them to spread the West Nile Virus to you and your family. In fact, studies have shown that almost 85 percent of those who have contracted West Nile Virus, more than likely caught it on a residential property.

A lot of people think mosquitoes come from the creeks, streams and the ponds near their homes and this is one of the most common misconceptions. Clogged gutters, over-watered flower beds – anything that can collect water is a potential source, especially trashcans. Experts say all it takes is one tablespoon of standing water in a dirty trashcan to breed hundreds of mosquitoes.

It’s also important to note that once those mosquitoes hatch, they usually tend to stay close to home, i.e. your home! When dealing with mosquitoes, you want to try to get rid of as much of the population as possible naturally and that means removing their breeding grounds. Keeping your trashcans clean and free of debris is one of the best ways to decrease the mosquito population around your home. Dirty trashcans hold standing water and that small amount of water could mean the chance for you or your family members contracting the West Nile Virus.

Once you remove the breeding grounds for mosquitoes, you will notice a difference in as little as a few days. Your yard and home will have less mosquitoes and your family will be safe from the West Nile Virus. This is strong information to relay to your current and potential customers as it effects everyone in almost every state. Pass the word today and let your customers know that a clean trashcan, is a healthy trashcan. Recommend a trashcan cleaning service in your city today.

Can Your Trashcan Make You Sick?

Trashcan Cleaning MachineEvery year, people throw billions of tons of waste into their trashcans here in America and many of them don’t ever wash their hands after doing so. These trashcans are then left to sit in the hot sun, exposed to the elements, insects and wild animals. After just a couple days of this, harmful bacteria sets in and begins to grow. The homeowner goes out, throws away the trash and leftovers from the evening meal and that bacteria transfers onto their hands where it can be delivered anywhere on their body and that of their spouse or children.

This is how people become sick and this is how disease is spread. Do you know what diseases a dirty trashcan harbors? Do your customers know? Read on as we have listed the top 4 illness causing bacteria that you should watch out for.

Salmonella

Salmonella is a family of bacteria that can be found in eggs, poultry, raw meat and unprocessed milk. Discarded eggs shells or pieces of raw meat could contain salmonella, which will then be transferred to the trashcan. Salmonella poisoning can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headaches and fever.

E. coli

Escherichia coli is a bacteria that is found in uncooked beef, unpasteurized milk and in cucumbers. Therefore, any discarded products that are known to contain the bacteria can possibly contaminate trashcans. E. coli infection symptoms include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting and tiredness.

Listeria

Listeria monocytogenes are germs that can be found in raw milk, meat, poultry and some vegetables and, unlike many other bacteria groups, they can flourish at low temperatures, which means they can be found in your refrigerator and then end up in your trashcan.

Common Cold Virus

Germs that cause the common cold virus can also find their way into trashcans via discarded napkins and tissues. One of the main culprits for causing colds are rhinoviruses; viral agents that proliferate in the noses of humans. As the cold virus is airborne, discarded tissues and napkins can contain the virus.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! There is more harmful bacteria hanging out in a dirty trashcan than in any other part of your home. Make sure your customers know to have a trashcan cleaning service clean their trash bins often to prevent them and their families from getting sick.

Do You Have What It Takes to Be Your Own Boss?

Trashcan Cleaning BossThe new American Dream – owning your own business and being your own boss.

  • Being able to come and go as you please
  • Set your own schedule
  • Write your own paycheck

Iit sure looks good on paper doesn’t it?  The truth is, as good as the benefits of owning and operating your own business seem on paper, the reality is that it is a lot of work to be successful at it.

Does that mean you shouldn’t want more? That you shouldn’t aspire to be your own boss and live the lifestyle you have always wanted on your own terms? Not in the least, in fact, there are hundreds of thousands of small business owners enjoying the ability to spend more time doing what they like while running a successful business. Is it right for everyone? Let’s take a look.

A typical day in the life of an owner/operator of a small business usually includes getting up very early so they can get a head start on their day. A cup of coffee is breakfast and then they are out the door, ready to take on whatever the new day brings them. Whether they work in an office, retail location or their business is mobile, the routine is still the same: arrive at the “office” and get busy. Not only do they have to run their business and service the customer accounts scheduled for the day, they also have to try to bring in new customers. This is the sustainability of their business and it offers them growth and, in the long term, more profits.

After working hard all day dealing with customers, vendors and maybe even some employees, they still have more work to do. If you work in an office, you have to clean it. If you operate a mobile trashcan cleaning service, you have to maintain your vehicle and the machinery that does the hard part for you.

Now that your customers are satisfied, your employees are happy and your vehicle and machinery are ready for another day, you can finally head home, see the wife and kids for a little bit and, after they are all asleep, put on your accountant glasses and take care of the books for the day.

Does this sound like a lot of work? It is, but if you ask anyone who owns and operates their own business what it’s like to be the boss, they will tell you there is no greater feeling in the world!

If being your own boss and running a business sounds interesting to you, sign up for the first chapter of my book, “Where There’s Trash, There’s Cash” in the right column and see what the Trashcan Cleaning Machine can do for you.

FAQs About a Trashcan Cleaning Service

Trashcan Cleaning ServiceTrashcans… many homeowners have them, but besides rolling them out to the curb once a week, not many people give them a second thought. It’s our job, as professional trashcan cleaning service operators to ensure people in communities all over the country understand why they need to have their trashcans cleaned on a regular basis.

We have put together a Q&A session to help prepare you for the questions potential customers are sure to ask.

Q- Why should I have my trash bin cleaned?
A- You want to explain to them that, if left dirty and unattended, a dirty trashcan will breed a wide array of harmful bacteria including Tuberculosis, Strep, staph, E-Coli, Salmonella & Listeria.

Q- How often should my trash and recycle bins be cleaned?
A- Let the customer know that their trashcans should be cleaned on a monthly basis to protect them and their families from sickness and disease. For homes that use their cans more often or have much larger families than most, suggest a cleaning every 2 weeks.

Q- How will I know that my bins have been cleaned?
A- Ensure that customers know that their trashcans have been cleaned via an email confirmation or other messaging source. Sometimes the fresh smell and clean look go unnoticed.

Q- When I return home I found that my trashcan has been cleaned.  I have not signed up for your service. Why did you do this?
A- This is something that you may choose to do for a new residential area or community that you want to gain new customers in. A quick but thorough cleaning will show them what their trashcans could look like and will net you some new customers in the process.

Q- Sometimes I take my trash bins in early and don’t leave it at the curbside, how would it be cleaned?
A – Make sure new and potential customers are aware of the fact that their trashcans need to be out at the roadside for cleaning and that your team will return it to the customer’s designated spot near their home or garage.

There you have it; some of the most asked questions from new and potential trashcan cleaning service customers. Knowing the answers will make your business shine and put faith in the customer that you know what you are doing and will do a good job.
