Transactional

The transactional leadership style is one that uses rewards or punishments for its team members based on their performance results. Both the business owner and their employees will agree upon set goals and the transactional leader will reward them when they reach those goals.

Transformational

The transformational style of leadership is based on communication between business owners and their staff. This type of leader motivates their employees and uses a variety of communication methods to increase productivity. This leader is very involved in their business and works hard to ensure it succeeds.

Democratic

A democratic leader often relies on input from others including their team members and partners. The responsibility for the business is still theirs, but the team effort comes into play a lot with this leadership style.

Laissez-Faire

This is possibly one of the worst management styles to have as this leader lacks direction and fails to provide any type of employee feedback. This hinders the productivity of the team and could cause the business to fail.

Autocratic

This leadership style gives sole authority to make any changes to the business or to the employees. This leadership style is usually only good for employees that require close supervision and generally slows down productivity of the business.

So which of these styles best suits you? Do you take charge, yet still listen to the advice of your team, or do you sit back and oversee every aspect of your trashcan cleaning service by yourself? The number one, easiest way to generate referrals for your business is to provide consistently good service. It sounds simple, but it’s true; better service equals more business. If you are giving your customers good service, they will tell their friends and neighbors about it and your business will grow.

Second, give incentives to customers who refer people to your business. It can be anything from a free week of service, a discount off of their bill or anything else you can think of. Customers like freebies and they are sure to talk about them.

Here is one that a lot of small business owners don’t think of; just ask. Ask your customers to refer you to their friends and neighbors if they like your service. There is nothing wrong with asking for referrals and it doesn’t cost you a thing.

If there are complementary businesses in your area, partner with them. You clean trashcans, partner with the guy who empties them. You could even partner with lawn service contractors or home repairman. In fact, you can partner with anyone who is out in the community that you serve.

Although you don’t want to sound like a used car salesman, try networking. This method is a bit more tricky but can be done almost anywhere and at any time. Get out and mingle, mention your service and see who bites.

Customer service can even make a more expensive business more popular, and more profitable, than a cheaper one with the same offerings.

Why is that? How can customer service make someone pay more for the very same service or remain loyal to one business over another? In today’s economy, we all work much harder for our money and we don’t want to see it go to waste and that it the reason many homeowners gravitate towards the business with the best customer service. Be it the corner grocer, the local repairman or even their favorite roofer who checks in with them after a bad storm – its customer service that keeps them coming back.

There are many ways that you can give your customers exemplary service without having to do much more than what you are already doing. Sure, you can give out coupons, offer specials and give out free services, but that in itself doesn’t make good customer service. Something as simple as a hello or picking up a tipped over can at the curb is enough to make some customers remain loyal to your business. Other business owners will even go so far as sending out birthday or holiday cards as a way of thanking customers for their patronage. To you, it may seem like “just a card,” but to your customers, it can mean the world.

Another way you can give above average customer service is to talk to your customers. I know it sounds too easy to be effective, but just asking your customers if there is anything else you can do to make your service more worthwhile to them can really win them over and turn them into customers for life.

Forget the gimmicks and get back to basics; offer excellent customer service and you won’t have to worry about losing customers any time soon. After working hard all day dealing with customers, vendors and maybe even some employees, they still have more work to do. If you work in an office, you have to clean it. Q- How often should my trash and recycle bins be cleaned?
A- Let the customer know that their trashcans should be cleaned on a monthly basis to protect them and their families from sickness and disease. For homes that use their cans more often or have much larger families than most, suggest a cleaning every 2 weeks.

Q- How will I know that my bins have been cleaned?
A- Ensure that customers know that their trashcans have been cleaned via an email confirmation or other messaging source. Sometimes the fresh smell and clean look go unnoticed.

Q- When I return home I found that my trashcan has been cleaned.  I have not signed up for your service. Why did you do this?
